Dr. Roshan Lal Sharma (Associate Professor in English) is Dean, School of Humanities and Languages; Head, Department of English and European Languages and Proctor of CUHP, Dharamshala located at Temporary Academic Block (TAB), Shahpur, District Kangra. Dr. Sharma is a PhD (1993) from HPU, Shimla. His areas of specialization and interest include Indian Literature in English, Contemporary Literary and Cultural Theory, New Literatures of the world, Literatures in Translation, Translation Studies, Narratology, New Media Ecology, Mystical Poetry, Theatre, Music, writing poetry (in English and Hindi) and translation from English to Hindi and vice versa. Dr. Sharma was awarded Fulbright Senior Research (Post-doctoral) Fellowship during 2007-08 for his book project on Sufi Interpretations of Walt Whitman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was also awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Institute for Research in the Humanities (IRH), UW-Madison. Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla awarded him Associateship from 2004 to 2006. Dr. Sharma won the Isaac Sequeira Memorial Award 2007 for the Best Paper presented in MELUS-MELOW 2007 International Conference held at PU, Chandigarh. He was awarded ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ for his service as Citizen Diplomat in Chicago on January 18, 2008 jointly by International Visitors Center (Chicago) and Chicago Public Library. Dr. Sharma was also awarded ‘Citation Certificate’ in recognition of meritorious contribution in the field of Academics in June 2009 by Fylfot Forum, Solan (HP). He was awarded a Citation Certificate for Social Service by Himachal Matribhumi Seva Sansthan, Gaura, District Solan (HP) in October 2011. He was awarded National Scholarship for securing Position of Merit in BA (Pass Course & Honours) of HPU, Shimla from 1987 to1989 along with Poverty-cum-Brilliance Scholarship from 1983 to 1987 by the Directorate of Education, Government of Himachal Pradesh. Dr. Sharma has 8 books (04 authored 01 co-authored, 02 co-edited and 01 translated) to his credit. He has published more than 30 papers in international and national journals of critical standing. Eleven MPhil and 5 PhD scholars have been awarded degrees under his direct supervision. He has participated in more than 25 International and 30 National Seminars; presented papers, chaired sessions and has acted as Resource Person in several conferences, seminars, workshops, and also as discussant in panel discussions, symposia, literary festivals, colloquia in India and abroad. He has delivered Invited Lectures at UW-Madison, University of California-Riverside, Chicago Public Library and has visited UCLA, Yale University, McGill University and Concordia University in Montreal (Canada) to carry out his Post-doctoral research. He is Associate Editor of three refereed journals namely JELL, Conifers Call and Conjunctions; Executive Member, MELUS-MELOW India; Member, FCT, Baroda; Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi and Historical Society of HP. Prior to joining the CUHP, Dr. Sharma has taught in various colleges across Himachal Pradesh affiliated to HPU for more than two decades. He has been Member, Faculty of Languages (2005-07), HPU and is Member, Text Books Editorial Board, Department of English, HPU, Shimla.
