Professor Roshan Lal Sharma is Head, Department of English and European Languages; Dean, School of Humanities and Languages; Dean Students’ Welfare; Proctor; Director (Research), Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala, District Kangra (HP). Dr. Sharma was awarded a PhD from HPU, Shimla in1993. His areas of specialization and interest include Indian Literature in English, Contemporary Literary and Cultural Theory, New Literatures of the world, Literatures in Translation, Translation Studies, Narratology, New Media Ecology, Mystical Poetry, Theatre, Music, writing poetry (in English and Hindi) and translation from English to Hindi and vice versa.

 

 Professor Sharma was awarded Fulbright Senior Research (Post-doctoral) Fellowship during 2007-08 for his book project on Sufi Interpretations of Walt Whitman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was also awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Institute for Research in the Humanities (IRH), UW-Madison. Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla awarded him Associateship from 2004 to 2006. Dr. Sharma won the Isaac Sequeira Memorial Award 2007 for the Best Paper presented in MELUS-MELOW 2007 International Conference held at Panjab University, Chandigarh.

 

 Dr. Sharma has published 15 books such as Raja Rao’s Shorter Fiction (2009), Walt Whitman – A Critical Evaluation (2000), Som P. Ranchan: Dialogue Epic in Indian English Poetry (co-authored, 2012), Mapping Diaspora Identities: India and Beyond (co-edited, 2017), and Communication in Contemporary Scenario: Its Multiple Dimensions (co-edited, 2017) to mention a few. He has published approximately 60 research papers in international and national journals of critical standing along with book chapters. Fifteen PhD and eleven M.Phil scholars have been awarded degrees under his direct supervision. Two PhD scholars have submitted their thesis and six are presently enrolled with him.

 

 Being an active seminarian, he has delivered several keynote addresses, valedictory addresses, presented papers, chaired and moderated sessions, and acted as resource person in more than hundred international and national conferences and seminars, and participated as discussant and resource person in several panel discussions, symposia, workshops, literary festivals, and colloquia in India and abroad. He moderated panel on Indo-American Transactions: A Two-Way Street and chaired a session during IASA 7th World Congress and ASAK 50th International Congress at Seoul National University, Seoul, South Korea from 17-19 August 2015.

 

 Dr. Sharma has delivered Invited Lectures at UW-Madison, dept of English, UW-Madison Institute for the Research in the Humanities, University of California-Riverside, Chicago Public Library and has visited UCLA, Yale University, McGill University and Concordia University in Montreal (Canada) to carry out his Post-doctoral research. He was awarded ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ for his service as Citizen Diplomat in Chicago on January 18, 2008 jointly by International Visitors Center (Chicago) and Chicago Public Library.

 

 Dr. Sharma is Member, Editorial Board, Review of International American Studies (RIAS)—A Peer-Reviewed International Journal. He is also Member, Advisory Editorial Board, World Journal of Gender and Literature (WJGL), and Associate Editor, Journal of English Literature and Language. He is Executive Committee Member, International American Studies Association (IASA), and Joint Secretary, MELUS-MELOW India (Regd.)—Society for the Study of the Multi-Ethnic Literature of the United States and of the world. He has been Member, Faculty of Languages (2005-07), HPU and is Member, Text Books Editorial Board, Department of English, HPU, Shimla.
