CUHP Digital Learning Management System

Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) has adopted various digital technologies from it's inception to support teaching and learning. The university provides access to digital resources in various ways to the facutly, researchers and students to support e-learning.

Under MOOCs Prakosht of CUHP various courses are being offered on SWAYAM Platform and EPGPathshala from various departments of the university on topics like Marketing management, sustainable enterprises, Some departments are in the process of developing MOOCs and these will be shortly made available on these platforms.

ILMS is a service offered by the Information and Library Network Centre (An IUC of UGC) to the institutions of higher education across the country. It provides pre-populated learning content, derived from e-PG Pathshala: A Gateway to PG Courses, as per the prevailing guidelines of UGC. The ILMS service has been set up at the Central University of Himachal Pradesh and an MoU has been signed with INFLIBNET to develop courses taught in the CUHP. The configuration for around 18 subjects and 184 courses are in work in progress.

Sangam is an information service hosted by Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) offering bibliographic details and location of open educational resources harvested from around the world and offered under one umbrella. These resources are created and hosted in various repositories across the globe and available under various Open Access Licenses. Currently, Sangam has around 2,40,000 records which include Open Access E-Books [97], Open Access Institutional Repositories [236150], Open Research Data Repositories [4599]. The repository will be added with more and more open access repositories. This service is open to all learners of the world as it is accessible publicly.

The CUHP Library supports digital learning by providing access to various subscribed e-resources such as e-journals and provides OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) to all the collections of the library. The library also provides curated list of open access e-resources and various digital learning platforms on it's webpage. The library has also recently launched trial runs of access to subscribed e-resources and e-magazines through mobile applications.

SWAYAM is a programme initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.

e-PG Pathshala is an initiative of the MHRD under its National Mission on Education through ICT (NME-ICT) being executed by the UGC. The content and its quality being the key component of education system, high quality, curriculum-based, interactive e-content in 70 subjects across all disciplines of social sciences, arts, fine arts and humanities, natural & mathematical sciences, linguistics and languages have been developed by the subject experts working in Indian universities and other R & D institutes across the country. It also provides the following corollary services:

  • E-Adhyayan (https://ebooks.inflibnet.ac.in/eadhyayan/) : e-Adhyayan is a repository of e-Books for the Under-Graduate & Post-Graduate Courses. The e-Books are being derived from the e-text of e- PG Pathshala and SWAYAM(UGCMoocs).
  • UGC-MOOCs - A VERTICAL OF SWAYAM (https://ugcmoocs.inflibnet.ac.in/)
  • e-Pathya (Offline Access): e-Pathya is one the verticals of e-PG Pathshala which is software driven course / content package that facilitates students pursuing higher education (PG level) in distance learning as well as campus learning mode. it also facilitate offline access.

FOSSEE (Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education) project promotes the use of FLOSS tools to improve the quality of education in our country. We aim to reduce dependency on proprietary software in educational institutions. We encourage the use of FLOSS tools through various activities to ensure commercial software is replaced by equivalent FLOSS tools. We also develop new FLOSS tools and upgrade existing tools to meet requirements in academia and research. The FOSSEE project is part of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) was initiated by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahati and Roorkee) along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2003. Five core disciplines were identified, namely, civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering and mechanical engineering and 235 courses in web/video format were developed in this phase. Currently, 2500+ unique courses are available for self study on NPTEL platform.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) under NMEICT initiated the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) Pilot project (NDLI Ph-I) in April 2015 with the vision to develop a ‘One Library - All of India portal. The vision of NDLI is to build it as a National Knowledge Asset - The Key Driving Force for Education, Research, Innovation, and Knowledge Economy in India. NDLI Portal (https://www.ndl.gov.in) or (https://ndl.iitkgp.ac.in) was nationally launched on 19th June 2018. NDLI is also available as Mobile App (Android and iOS) and on the UMANG Platform. NDLI currently hosts 91 million contents. Full text of 72 million (80%) contents can be accessed free by anybody without even registering/logging in. NDLI also host about 6.64 lakh nationally licensed contents, which though otherwise subscribed, can be accessed free through NDLI. NDLI contents include Books, Articles, Class Lectures, Presentations, Question Papers, Solutions, Thesis, Simulation, Data sets, Newspapers, Law Judgement and reports, covering all academic levels- KG to PG and life-long learners, all disciplines and all subjects. NDLI is going to be a facilitator for fulfilling the NEP-2020 mandate and providing impactful leadership in Digital Education in India. NDLI thus is a critical entity of India’s soft power through Digital Education Diplomacy.

Started in 2012 as an experiment, Professor Agarwal’s MIT Circuits and Electronics course was launched on edX.org, now it hosts various programs leading to degrees of Masters, Bachelors, MicroMasters® and MicroBachelors® programs. In 2013, the edX platform was released as open source software. Today, the Open edX platform powers more than 2,400 learning sites worldwide.
