I warmly welcome you to the School of Physical & Material Sciences (SoPMS) at CUHP. As the Dean, I joined a supportive, warm and energetic community of teachers and students with a deep sense of commitment to teaching, learning and innovations. More than ever, we are committed to produce teachers, scholars, and community leaders with full of knowledge and dedication to address the challenges faced by our country and humanity as a whole. The school of Physical and Material Sciences (SoPMS) is a community of diverse talents with diverse specializations, divided at present into three departments, viz., the Department of Physics and Astronomical Science, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Science, and Department of Nano Science and Materials.

The Physics Department under the school is enjoying the status of vibrant department of the CUHP, as we are successfully running three programs: BSc, MSc and Research Degree. In the School we have established Department of Chemistry and Chemical Sciences started from the session 2017-18. In the year 2024, we have established a new Department, Department of Nano Science and Materials. In the department of Nano Science and Materials we are running M.Tech. program with specialization in semiconductor materials/devices. All the departments operate in alignment with the central idea of the School, ensuring a harmonious and coordinated approach. As faculty and staff, we work closely in partnership to fulfill the vision and mission of the School. Our non- teaching staff works in collaboration with faculty and students to accomplish our common goals and routine work.

As researchers, we engage in advanced and cutting-edge research, fostering strong national and international collaborations to connect critical research with community-based issues, promote innovation, draw upon diverse methodologies and disciplines, and generate knowledge from multiple perspectives. As teacher educators, we adopt a learning approach grounded in mentorship, wherein mentor teachers work closely with students to prepare them for careers in teaching and research. As public scholars, we have integrated Community Connect Projects into the curriculum, providing students with opportunities for meaningful civic engagement on issues such as promoting scientific temper, conserving energy, and protecting the environment.

All faculty members of SoPMS are active and accomplished, with national and international recognition for their contributions to research. Our School is also a community of diverse talents, which engage our students and alumni who seek to change the world through teaching, research and innovations. More than ever, SoPMS is committed to producing good teachers, researchers, and community leaders full of knowledge and dedication, who can address the challenges faced by our nation and humanity as a whole. Doing science requires dedication, passion, hard work, knowledge updating, and research in cutting-edge science problems with an innovative approach, all of which you will find at SoPMS.
