Eligibility Criteria
1. Eligible Disciplines
Candidates possessing the prescribed educational qualifications in the following disciplines or allied areas shall be eligible to apply for the Ph.D. under the “School of Physical and Material Sciences”:
• Physics
• Chemistry
• Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
• Materials Science
• Materials Engineering / Metallurgical Engineering
• Electronic Science
• Electronics and Communication Engineering
• Semiconductor Technology / Semiconductor Engineering
• Chemical Engineering
• Biotechnology
• Environmental Science
• Computer Science / Computer Science and Applications
• Information Technology
• M.Tech. in Nano Science & Materials, Semiconductor Technology or allied fields
• Any other interdisciplinary/allied discipline relevant to Nano Science & Materials.
2. Educational Qualification
Candidates who have completed any of the following shall be eligible to apply for admission to the Ph.D. programme:
• A one-year/two-semester Master's degree programme after a four-year/eight-semester Bachelor's degree programme; or
• A two-year/four-semester Master's degree programme after a three-year Bachelor's degree programme; or
• A M.Tech. degree in Nano Science & Materials or allied fields, including Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Nanotechnology, Semiconductor Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other relevant engineering disciplines; or
• Any qualification declared equivalent to the Master's degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body.
Candidates shall fulfil the minimum eligibility requirements, including percentage/grade criteria, relaxation for reserved categories, equivalence of qualifications, and other conditions, as prescribed in the University Ph.D. Admission Advertisement/Guidelines and applicable UGC Regulations.
Candidates possessing an M.Phil. degree or any other qualification recognised as equivalent under the applicable UGC Regulations shall also be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme, subject to the conditions prescribed by the University.
3. Admission Process
Stage I: Candidates Qualified in National-Level Examinations
Candidates possessing a valid qualification in UGC-NET/CSIR-NET (including JRF), GATE, or any other equivalent national-level fellowship/eligibility examination recognised by the UGC or any other competent statutory authority, in the relevant discipline, shall be eligible under Stage I.
Such candidates shall be directly called for the interview as per the University Ph.D. Admission Guidelines and applicable UGC Regulations.
Stage II: Candidates Not Qualified in National-Level Examinations
Candidates possessing the prescribed educational qualifications in the above-mentioned disciplines but not having qualified any of the national-level examinations mentioned under Stage I shall be eligible under Stage II.
Such candidates shall be considered through the University Ph.D. entrance examination followed by an interview, as per the University Ph.D. Admission Guidelines and applicable UGC Regulations.
